You'll want to set a budget prior to hiring a designer. Everyone has a budget, no matter who they are.

It's easy to fall in love with beautiful things. Knowing your budget will keep your designer in line and on budget.

How can I change the look of a room when my budget is minimal?

Rearrange the furniture; Relocate artwork and accessories you already own; Repaint the room; Imagine how the room you're in could look with one or two simple changes.

How can I make sure that I don't make purchases sporatically and end up with a room (or house) that does not flow stylistically?

A.

Your designer should make a master plan of the spaces in question to ensure that each purchase made adds up to the vision you have. This also relates to a good budget outline which should be provided by your designer. This will avoid purchasing costly mistakes that are usually not returnable.

About how long does it usually take to design a room from execution of design to enjoying the newly designed room?

A. Generally about 6 to 9 months. Each poroject can vary greatly due to complexity of design and type of furniture ordered.
